itunes sharing nonsense

the itunes’ sharing works flawlessly between two different computers: I for example can listen to the songs from my sister computer, and vice-versa, even if I use a mac and her is a windows/pc.

the fact that both itunes must be open to share the songs is a smart move from apple: you become more powerful by network effect when more and more people on your network use (and keep on using) itunes. the player is just a click away from the store, and talk about impulse buying.

sadly it’s not the same between two different personalities on the same computer. since panther, apple simplified the switch: now you don’t need to close your apps to move to another user (downloads keep running, IMs turn to away - or should, it depends - any calculation continues) but itunes don’t follow this rule.

if i try to open itunes on my personality, and the other user has it open too, I can’t do it, and can’t listen to the other itunes either (itunes turn off when you switch). and they even ask you to close the other itunes in order to use it. ok, me and my bf share our passwords, and are both Admin users. but it’s a hassle to switch back and forth, and in theory each password should be secret, huh?

not only that, i’m stuck in the odd position of being allowed to browse and listen to songs from any computer in my network (think about public wi-fi, sharing with complete strangers) but can’t listen to song from my own harddisk but a different personality. how weird is that?
