dead tree review

Make Magazine

learn how to create a cat feeder from your old VCR, among others.

Shojo Beats

for those new to the terms: shonen = boy = action-packed stories, and shojo = girl = romance and “things from the bottom of the heart”.
.
Shojo Beats is from the Shonen jump people, a magazine with 5, 6 series each edition. I dunno if the american version follows the japanese chronology (way better) or has a mind of it’s own (expect disneyesque solutions, so).

deleuze is dead

after returning my first version to julio (he needed it for his conclusion thesis) and buying another book, I finished readingDeLanda’s Intensive science and virtual phylosophy.
.
this book is more elusive than the other two. he talks about deleuze’s theories, and reading it sober just made me question why bother going all this way thru, so I decided to read it only stoned. I did it before with marshall mc luhan and it helped a lot!
.
at the last chapter, criticizing scientific methods, delanda gives us the goods of why the hassle, quoting Ian Stewart from does god plays dice?
.

Linearity is a trap. The behaviour of linear equations is far from typical. But if you decide that only linear equations are worth thinking about, self-censorship sets in. Your textbooks fill with triumphs of linear analysis, its failures buried so deep that the graves go unmarked and the existence of the graves goes unremarked. As the eighteenth century believed in a clockwork world, so did the mid-twentieth in a linear one.

.
deleuze’s virtual world always masked by the actual world we live in reminds me of the nagual/tonal duality of carlos castaneda. a lot. quasi-causes, multiplicities, plane of consistency, and a mythology to chew onand make sure I’m not understood in this world.
.
whatever.

gay parade

I was busy this weekend on the MEA convention, so I had no stamina for any gay parade…
.
but, to celebrate, here’s our lovely brazilian super-heroine tranny, lord fanny.
.
in this scene, (s)he achieves barbelith, some kind of born-again moment for anarchists, when you realize you don’t need any external tools to fix your own condition. like, we, as humans came with instructions manual embedded in our soul, despite all priests saying otherwise.

in something awful: an open table about the fashion sense of the super-heroes.
.

.

Zack: Like I am reading that. What, did a clock kill his family or something?
.
Dr. Thorpe: No, he LOVES clocks. Maybe the opposite of a clock killed his family.

dorkwave, comics

white ninja is a nice, nonsense webcomic.
.
and the entire website is sleek and straight-to-the-point - all in greyscale and the actual comics in 6 colors gif files. I say, newspaper-like.

otaku

the garnier manga head page got it wrong with the terms.
.
actually shonen is boys, and shoujo, girls.
.
and I searched downtown manhattan to find it, to no avail.
