from o’reilly radar: “Soeren Lund, director of Lego Mindstorms NXT, today announced at our CustomerMade conference in Copenhagen that the Mindstorms NXT operating system is to be open sourced.”
.
now it starts to get interesting.

shaping things

at eybeam to the power of networks conference, I bought “shaping things” book, from bruce sterling.
.
he writes beautifully, and this spimes things really catch me. i’ll soon write better about it… he correlates the industrial societies with the artesanal ones, so he can extrapolate (he’s a science fiction writer) to a possible future.

.
in the 70’s, Dr. Joël de Rosnay coined the term macroscope, for a machine that - like the telescope and microscope before it - would help humanity to view and interact with the infinitely complex.
.
our computers have enough power to crunch large chunks of data (heck, the entire chaos math field was discovered after we had enough processing power to peek on it), we just need new interfaces to visualize it.

new ipod

can the new video ipod automatically download videoblogs? because itunes can grab the podcasts (as I discussed earlier). I know it probably will, but I just want to make sure…
.
I don’t want to buy video content (not with DRM and my itunes playlist crashing every two months), but I’d like another venue for my videoblog mania…

dead tree review, cont.

play

now I’m a proud owner of a PS2 - which makes my autistic boyfriend even more, crashing cars all night long. I myself prefer the cute, RPG titles, so I started with we love katamari.
.
anyways, it’s good to have a magazine to follow the steps… I’m still confused with all the consoles, types, and titles, out there, but any time spent playing games is less time spent watching american TV.

Virtual Star Hasseigaku

the japanese characters made it impossible for me to download the utena soundtrack, so yeah, I bought it (my first cd in ages). opera + rosecrux + anime + anarchy = utena.

Dead Boys Detectives

I like the fact that DC is moving it’s ass to cater to the manga audience, and I respect they’re at least trying (instead of packing superheroes+blockbuster movies+copyright infringment suits), but this one is simply no good… It has all the shojo imagery plus a hint of american goth, but the plot is dumb and the characters are formulaic… too eager to please, you know?
.
like, repackaging teen titans was a good move! super-deformed spin-offs like this - with new artists and lighter motifs - are a nice move, but better luck next time.

Shojo Beats

for those new to the terms: shonen = boy = action-packed stories, and shojo = girl = romance and “things from the bottom of the heart”.
.
Shojo Beats is from the Shonen jump people, a magazine with 5, 6 series each edition. I dunno if the american version follows the japanese chronology (way better) or has a mind of it’s own (expect disneyesque solutions, so).
