podcast idea

instead of waiting for my dj friends to give me content for my radio project, I decided to make a podcast out of any good mixtape mp3 file I found on the web (like this set from dj spark). so, as anyone with ANT can subscribe to my videoblog feed, people could also subscribe to my music feed on ipodder
.
the thing is, this ipodder doesn’t recognize my feed… i’m trying now ipodderx, which downloads even torrents (way better to handle the traffic) but it’s a paid app…

digging good music in NYC

whoever told you it’s easy to find music in NYC doesn’t know the city. you have to refine your bullshit detector to get past the marketing smokescreen that surrounds the city.
.
me and julio are building our own schedule, here. our rules are:

  1. it has to be near, walking-distance near (we live in the east village, so there’s no excuses)
  2. the music has to be good, and even (have a definitive style, and control your dj friends)
  3. it has to be free, preferably, or at least $5 weekdays, $10 weekends. but if we have to pay, it has to be unforgettable

.
so far, we voted:
monday: the cock: it’s hard to find a good ol’ nasty fun in this sanitized city, but this place has it!
.
wednesday: (and I mean, today) Lit: we even met michel gondry there (we weren’t really sure it was him, but once the dj played a lot of songs the guy directed - lame! - it became clear for us he was the real guy)

i’m amazed with flickr. cute interface, nice features, the right policy (releasing their API for free to any non-commercial project).
.
i was getting worried about my picture collection growing impossibly big because of our new camera (it’s easy to get lost if you don’t index it wisely), but flickr is a good tool, both for image input (by web, mail, desktop app and bookmarklet) and output (groups, calendar, blog feature, this nice zeitgeist flash app on your left…).
.
since brazilians are migrating from orkut to multiply, I’m preaching my fotolog friends to move to flickr.

the attack of the zombie friends
.
it seems that finally my brazilian friends are realizing the piece of shit orkut is, so they’re flying in droves to multiply. sadly becaus of it, i’m receiving dozen of personal mails inviting me for the system.
.
so I reached a gray zone: technically it’s not a spam (it’s directed to me, and from known people) but it feels like one. so I can’t throw my rules on them like I do with spam, because it’s a legitimate measure: after all the’re transplanting their contacts from orkut. but receiving a lot of different mails with a “personal message from {insert friend’s name here}”, telling you the same exact sentence all of them is just creepy!
.
I don’t want to go there now (let’s see if it reaches critical mass, so I’ll have no choice than comply to gravity), so i created a “multiply” mail folder, with the sole purpose of putting them out of my view. i have a policy against mail folders, because it clutters the app (it’s fairly easy to create, but also to forget - so what’s the use of having it?), it’s not automatic (i have to create a rule for it to be smart), and it will have smart folders feature - like itunes - on tiger, anyway, so why bother?
.
i believe everything in the digital world have to be automated, just because it simplifies your life and hell, that’s the ultimate purpose of a computer. so he’d better be good on it.
