lovely icons
.
the author of this site reunited 300 icons from different websites to judge it. it was: arrows, posts, comments, mail, bullets, print and carts.
.
nevermind his conclusions, i loved all those tiny icons packed together, it has a “mundane-stuff-in-a-canvas” quality.
.

.
and thinking about it, is there any other quintessencial icon on websites? i thought of edit/preferences, login, logout, new and wishlist. it would be cool to assign letters fr it and build different sets of dingbats fonts for it…

mp3.com
.
to say the truth, i never liked the site anyway. i always thought the rating system was stupid: instead of a “who downloaded this song also downloaded…” cluster gnod-like indexing, they insisted in a top 100 solution that polluted my electronica tastes with tasteless trancey experiments.
.
(maybe they secretly wanted to breed an alpha male song that would bypass the mass-media marketing machine, and be a champion of the mp3 cause. who knows?)
.
but hey, in a jiff, three years of music projects go to the trash bin, victms of a oh-so-cool name in the new digital music wars. (do the company e-mailed the producers to backup their creations? they should.)
.
in comparison, it was like a cute blue-chromed butterfly, or an albino tiger, or any nature’s strange fruit: killed because it was just too pretty to survive.
.
well, the more our media centralizes in fewer hands, the more the decisions of our culture will be made by a clueless suit instead of our communities. does it make you feel afraid? well, it should.
